The Opalescence Process
Initial Consultation and Preparation
The process begins with an initial consultation with Dr. Chokshi. During this visit, your dental health will be assessed to ensure you are a good candidate for teeth whitening. Any existing dental issues, such as cavities or gum disease, may need to be addressed before the whitening procedure.
Before the whitening treatment, your teeth will be cleaned to remove any plaque and tartar, ensuring the whitening agent can be applied evenly and effectively.
The Whitening Procedure
- Protection: To protect your gums, lips, and other soft tissues from the whitening gel, a protective barrier will be applied. This usually involves covering the gums with a special gel or rubber shield.
- Application: The Opalescence whitening gel, which contains a powerful but safe concentration of hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, is carefully applied to the surfaces of your teeth. The gel is designed to penetrate the enamel and break down the stains that cause discoloration.
- The gel may be applied in several stages, with each application lasting about 15-20 minutes. The total procedure time is typically around one hour, but it may vary based on the desired level of whitening and the initial color of your teeth.

Post-Treatment Care
